"Coastal Currents" watercolor by Julie Creighton

“Coastal Currents” watercolor by Julie Creighton

There is just something soothing and tranquil about watercolors, that lures the viewer into wanting to take a closer look. Maybe it’s the transparency in the wash and blending of colors, or the fluidity of the paint reacting with the paper that make them so alluring.

July is National Watercolor Month and we are honored to currently represent the work of several talented, local artists who have chosen to use this lovely media to express themselves. Olympia’s Amy Fisher‘s love of flora & fauna are apparent in her work – birds, bouquets and even family dogs have been the subject of Amy’s paintings. Beverly Fotheringham has an amazing way of capturing light and water, whether it’s a dew drop on a leaf, or a sunset in an Olympia harbor. Julie Creighton is the newest watercolor artist in the gallery and there are still a few days left to view her paintings representing our beautiful local landscapes. Sadly, one of Olympia’s most respected artists, William Winden, passed away in 2009, but we are fortunate to still have some of his original work as well as reproduction prints and cards of his stunning Northwest imagery.

Be sure to catch the last few days of our extended current show. Our next exhibit begins July 22nd and will feature new mixed media paintings by Susan Aurand and oil & mixed media paintings from Liza Brenner.
