Texture and warm earthy tones are key elements in this month’s gallery exhibit, featuring mixed media wall pieces from Tom Anderson, the ceramic bells & lanterns of Christine Buchanan, mixed media paintings by Christopher Mathie and ceramic totems and platters from Rabun Thompson.

Tom Anderson‘s work is bold and contemporary. The strong lines, color and design this Olympia artist is recognized for, give his work an almost symbolic, ancient cultural feel. Often starting with repurposed materials, these pieces, made with wood, metals, paint and an array of finishes, create themselves as Tom is experimenting with his techniques. Anderson’s work makes an impression on the viewer whether viewed in a professional or private setting.

We are excited to show the enchanting ceramic bells and lanterns of Christine Buchanan in this exhibit. Each of Christine’s pieces start off being wheel thrown. From there, she meticulously adds the mythological imagery of dragons, transforming them into magical works of art for the garden or home. Buchanan’s pieces are created to be functional and are designed to withstand our Northwest weather.

Christopher Mathie‘s large canvases capture the essence of our Northwest coastlines and the familiar partnership between water, land and wildlife. The majority of pieces in this show feature shorelines, but Christopher’s almost life-size herons, a skiff in “Ready for an Evening Ride” & the larger than life “Crabicus IV” round out this body of work well.

Ceramic totems built by returning artist, Rabun Thompson, are of grand scale and certainly impressive. Rabun’s work has an organic feel, with heavy texturing as the basis, botanical impressions & glaze tones found in nature and sculptural elements added for interest. In addition to the totems, we have a wide selection of trays and dishes of Thompson’s that are functional as well as decorative.

This current exhibit will run through April 17
