With Harbor Days and Sand in the City approaching, it’s time to switch things up for a mid-Summer show. This latest show, running now through August 31st, will feature encaustic paintings, raku ceramics, watercolors and serigraphs from regional artists.

Framed into Sherry Buckner‘s serigraphs, are some of our favorite small wonders of the Pacific Northwest. Little birds perched on branches and reeds or swooping down to catch a meal in mid flight, schools of minnows swimming with the flow of the current, the stillness of blooms at dusk. These new serigraphs with hand painted elements from this Olympia artist, are crisp, yet soft and calming.

You may recognize the distinct ceramic style raku artists, Dave and Boni Deal are known for, but as usual, their look is always evolving. With this exhibit, you will no doubt be impressed by the large wall discs of herons in the moonlight. Also in the show, are smokey, warm triptychs, platters, bowls and vases with imagery of wildflowers, sealife and leaves, where they have applied an interesting, batik aspect to their pottery.

Have you ever been downtown on one of those perfect Olympia days, when the water is like glass, mirroring the glowing sunset or the surrounding landscape? If so, you will feel like you could step right into one of Beverly Fotheringhams‘s watercolors. This Olympia painter’s “sharp focus” realism catches every vibrant detail of her Puget Sound subjects and water in all of its forms.

Jiji Saunders gives us a unique perspective on everyday life in the modern world. “Crossed Wires” reminds us of how we have become oblivious to the linear grids of utility lines above us and how they interact with the sky and landscape. Through encaustic wax, Jiji feels she is best able to mimic the glowing tones of we see in nature and the linear criss-crossing we don’t always notice.
