Olympia pastel artists featured for September

Two established, Olympia artists come together to make a strong statement in this September’s exhibit.

Marianne Partlow will be introducing her MEXICAN SPRING  series in this exhibition.  Although we may recognize her lush foliage in deep, bold tones, there is a new, personal feeling in these works.  The hot, sunset hues associated with south of the border complement her deep cobalt, violet and verdant subject matter.  Architecture, gardens, indigenous culture and the Mexican muralist tradition were strong influences on Marianne during her Mexico City sojourn. The dramatic contrasts of ancient design and Mexican modernism are explored throughout.

New work from Judith G. Smith features large pastels of familiar subject matter, but with very different approaches. If you have admired Smith’s emotional interpretations of crows and ravens in the past, this exhibit won’t disappoint. Deliberate, heavy brushstrokes of powerful images hang next to pieces with very defined lines and vivid color, capturing the characteristics of these social and intelligent birds.

Please join us for an artist’s reception Friday, September 5th from 5-7 pm.
