Did you join us last Spring for Arts Walk? If so, you probably got a glimpse of the twists and tweeks of artist, Colleen Cotey‘s sculpted wire animals. Cotey is a natural at capturing the essence of the wide range of the subjects for pieces she creates, including “Lonesome George”, the last Pinta Island Tortoise. A fawn sculpture, “Twins”, was chosen for the Arts Walk Cover art earlier this year and purchased by the City of Olympia.

Colleen’s work with wire has landed one of her pieces a spot at the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame, in Amarillo, Texas. Also to her credit this year, she recently traveled all the way to Parker, Colorado with a darling Pygmy Three Toed Sloth, for the Society of American Animal Artists Exhibition.

Colleen is not only devoted as an artist, but to the welfare of all animals. She is an wildlife advocate, equestrian, and dog owner. In fact, on her trip to Colorado, she rescued three puppies, two of which are up for adoption, see Cotey’s Facebook  page for details.

We are happy Colleen has agreed to do another show with us closer to the holidays. Keep twisting Colleen, we love what you are doing!

Colleen adds the final touches to one of her latest commissioned pieces at Childhood’s End.
