Join us for Arts Walk LI

Childhood’s End is gearing up for Arts Walk LI and we are honored to have several of our favorite artists back, as well as hosting two whose work we are exhibiting for the first time.

Doyle Fanning‘s eerily peaceful “In the Night Sky,” a photo collage print of a crow in the moonlight, has been chosen to grace the cover for this years event. We have had Fanning’s Work in the gallery for several years now and it has become very recognizable and collected. Knowing Doyle’s piece featured a bird, we decided to carry out the theme with the other artists in this exhibit.

Susan Aurand, a former cover artist, will be exhibiting oils from her “Ghost Bird” series of billowy clouds and soft avian imagery. Last fall’s cover artist, Kristen Etmund, will have more of her lovely woodblock prints of native species, which will make collectors of her work happy. Marilyn Frasca‘s unpredictable monotype & pastel pieces raised much emotion and praise at her last show here in 2013. The highly detailed, deeply symbolic ceramic sculptures by John & Robin Gumaelius are always a huge hit and we are excited to see new work. Viewers will be pleased to see new work from Chris Maynard, whose intricately cut feathers displayed in shadowboxes have been wildly popular.

New to the gallery are Chandler O’Leary and Stacy Polson. O’Leary, also a printmaker, will feature linocut native bird prints as well as cards. The needle felted wool tapestries by Stacy Polson are bold in color with strong imagery of birds, several with an Asian influence.

You don’t need to be a bird lover to appreciate the amazing talents of these nine Northwest artists. These are definitely pieces you will want to experience up close. Our exhibit will run from Friday, October 2nd through November 15th, so if you can’t make it to the event, you have plenty of time to view the show.

The voting has begun. If you love the art at Childhood’s End, cast you vote for us in the “Best of Western Washington” contest!
