Statement -
Symbolism takes many forms. Historically Icons have represented a religious fervor and taught lessons in their use of consistent design elements. But symbols exist just as relevantly in everyday items, in words, in association. Too often overlooked is the humble, just as often over-elocuted is the grand. If an object makes me stop, question or ponder, it has done its job.
Bio -
While on vacation in Vancouver, British Columbia, Dan discovered a small Art Gallery outside the city that specialized in Russian Art - and so began a love affair with Icons.
With the purchase of one and research on the medium itself, he began his studies at the beginning, with traditional Icon designs. As he progressed the idea of bringing them into the 21st century progressed as well.
Keeping true to the egg tempera paint, metal foil leaf, and wood, his imagination and Pacific Northwest roots, leave him respectful of the past, but always exploring new options for this time honored medium.
Dan's contributed to numerous shows in Oregon and Washington State. He has work in in several private collections including Ralph Lauren and Pratt & Larson. He has also been an Art contributor in the National Publication "Cloth, Paper, Scissors", as well as in a book of poetry; "Wedding Blessings" (June Cotner), and "The Motley Crew" a weekly College column.
Dan continues to create in the fields of art and writing, always looking forward to tomorrow - and the adventure it will bring.
