"Sometimes" a monotype and pastel drawing is on of over 50 works featured in "An Open Moment" exhibit

“Sometimes” a monotype and pastel drawing by Olympia artist, Marilyn Frasca, is one of over 50 works featured in “An Open Moment” exhibit.

We hope you can join Childhood’s End Gallery and the rest of Downtown Olympia for next weekend’s Arts Walk. One of our most respected and collected artists, Marilyn Frasca, will be returning with over fifty outstanding new monotype & pastel drawings in “An Open Moment.” What makes Marilyn Frasca’s art so mesmerizing and sought after? Besides its diverse imagery, it may be that there is rarely a typical or assumed theme or outcome to her drawings, so there is always an element of mystery to her exhibits. The following statement of Marilyn’s may give some insight into the unique technique and process of her captivating artwork:

“I use a variety of techniques to create textures on an inked plate from which I pull a single print (monotype). First studying the print, then working with the image that comes to me, I am able to sharpen and develop a visual and emotional response to textures and shapes. These seem to clarify and assemble themselves into astonishing pictures of people, places, animals, and events that have no recognizable connection to my life. As I work into the monotype the drawing becomes an act of remembering the expression of a person, their presence. An emotional quality is slowly revealed as I draw out the image. I can feel and see the eyes, the curve of a forehead, a hand holding something.”

Our current exhibit, “Northwest Landscapes” will run through Sunday September 29th. “An Open Moment begins October 4th and runs through November 17th, with Marilyn Frasca giving an artist Talk at 3pm on Sunday October 13th.
