“Fossil II,” a collaborative sculpture by Lin Mckjunkin & Milo White, can be viewed at Olympia’s Percival Landing.

If you have strolled the boardwalk or driven up 4th Avenue recently, you may have noticed a change in scenery. Did you second guess your memory as to what was displayed for public art?  Don’t worry – it’s the the annual changing of the plinths.

Each Summer, Olympia Parks, Arts and Recreation’s Percival Plinth Project replaces the public art on Percival Landing’s boardwalk. Fifteen new sculptures, created by local artists, are mounted on stands or “plinths” and displayed through the following summer. What makes this project interesting, is that YOU, the public, get to vote and determine which sculpture wins. The City of Olympia will then purchase the winning piece to be displayed permanently in a public space.

Make sure you check out Lin McJunkin & Milo White’s glass and steel collaboration, “Fossil II.” This sculpture is a reminder of the important, life giving roll bees play in the health and wellbeing of The Earth. Lin McJunkin is a resident artist at Childhood’s End Gallery, and we are proud to have several of her pieces available currently.

Just a reminder – the gallery will be closed for Independence Day, Tuesday, July 4th.
