The most anticipated Arts event of the year is just days away and we are very excited to show off the talents of several local artists.

Cal Capener is well known for his landscapes and still-life oil paintings. Though Capener uses bold, deliberate strokes, his brushwork leaves nothing for the imagination. The viewer is able to see each broken branch, mound of reeds, even moss reflecting on water.

If you are a birder, you will love the attention to detail in the small scale, mixed media paintings by former Arts Walk cover artist, Kristen Etmund. From each native species plumage, to their delicate grasp to a branch, these paintings are like a small window peering into your back yard.

The theatrical poses and content expressions on the whimsical animal sculptures by Babette Harvey, are truly endearing. Stacked with books or globes, Harvey’s pieces portray the important balance of the relationships between all creatures sharing the earth.

The carved & painted blocks of Sara Gettys‘ “wooden paintings” are an interesting mingling of texture and pattern. Sara has also chosen birds as her subject matter. Getty is able to carve out the individual personalities and character of the birds, she considers her neighbors, in a very tactile medium.

Carla Louise Paine once again will exhibit her amazing artistic talent through her stunning oil paintings. Paine’s masterfully executed work is simple in subject, yet high in detail. Her ability to capture light is breathtaking, be it the sun hitting the tips of field grass or the gentle folds of an embroidered tablecloth.

Arts Walk is Friday April 28th, from 5-10 with music from Pat Cole & Jamie Jenson 6-9,
and Saturday April 29th 12 -8 with piano by Ann Finn from 2-4.
