A tell tale sign that Spring is here, is seeing the first cherry trees budding up and blooming. Next, we will see plump, little fledgelings leaving their nests, and smell the sweetness of green grass as it reaches for sunshine. Many of our artists take a cue from nature this time of the year for inspiration, as our current show exhibits.

Sherry Buckner‘s pastels will make you feel as though you just woke and caught March’s morning fog, still hugging the shadowy landscape before disappearing into the sunlight. Our state flower, the rhododendron, glows in the foreground of  the city in one paper cut of Aki Sogabe‘s, and a fluffy tuxedo cat appears content as it gazes up through the umbrella of a flowering cherry in another.  Ducklings are definitely a nod to Spring, and “Paddling the Black River” a block print  by Mimi Williams, may even inspire a walk around Capitol Lake in the near future. The blossoms and welcoming greens of Spring are often the subject matter in block prints from Yoshiko Yamamoto, as depicted on her lovely “Plum Blossoms” card.

Visit the exhibit now through April 23rd or view images of our artists work on line.
