Olympia Arts scene celebrated in American Craft Magazine

Something we have all known for years, and maybe even taken for granted, is that Olympia’s art scene is alive and well.

Thank you, American Craft Magazine for spotlighting Olympia’s lively and colorful Arts & Crafts movement in this month’s issue. We are fortunate to live in a community with so much diverse talent. The article mentioned several of our respected resident artists and their work. Boasted about in the piece were the boardwalk’s giant oyster by wire sculptor, Colleen Cotey, the sleek woodwork of Earle McNeil, cut feather shadowboxes from Chris Maynard, native inspired jewelry designed by Paul Wagner and cast by Jeff McKenzie, and the papercuts and furniture from current exhibitors, Nikki McClure & Jay T. Scott.

American Craft recognized the the entire community as a destination for The Arts, with references to Arbutus Folk School, Arts Walk & the Procession Parade, Farmer’s Market and the Plinth Project as well as noting our local college art programs, cultural centers, shops and galleries, including US!

Only a few more days to see the collaborative exhibit, “Waiting for High Tide,” featuring the gorgeous wooden sconces and furniture of Jay T. Scott and intricate papercuts from Nikki McClure, which will be up until May 30th. Find out for yourself why this prestigious magazine chose Olympia as an Arts destination to write about!
