Nikki MClure & Jay T Scott -“Waiting for High Tide” collaborative exhibit

Join us this Friday and Saturday with the opening of our Arts Walk exhibit, “Waiting for High Tide,” a collaboration of paper cuts and furniture by Olympia artists, Nikki McClure & Jay T. Scott, inspired by the Salish Sea.

Well admired artist, author & illustrator Nikki McClure’s bold, yet intricate papercuts are easily recognized in our community, but McClure’s work has had impact on a much wider scale, receiving national and international acclaim and being exhibited as far away as Japan and France. Locally, we are fortunate to see her playful, distinctive images used in advertising for sustainable community & environmental concerns & events, in public art, on t-shirts, bags, calendars & cards.

Jay T. Scott not only loves working with wood and perfecting his craft, but lives to carry out the connection his furniture makes between himself and the people who bring his pieces into their lives. From the extremely detailed, basket weave design and hidden bonuses like a USB port access and secret compartments on the Kingfisher secretary desk, to the simple appearance of an owl image in the wood grain of his sleek, maple sideboard, attention to detail in Scott’s furniture and lamps, is what sets his work apart from others.

This exhibit is a melding of ideas between a dynamic husband & wife team, based on life & family experiences reflected in Nikki McClure’s latest book, “Waiting for High Tide.”

We will have live music Friday with PC &J from 6-9 and Ann Finn on Saturday from 2-4 during Arts Walk.
Artist talk and book signing Friday May 6th from 7-8pm
